1. Who We Are

Hangeul Quest is an online Korean language school operated by Kate HaeOk Shin Yu. We serve students of all ages — anyone curious about the Korean language and culture. You can reach us at hangeulquest@gmail.com.

2. What Information We Collect

• Name and display name — used to identify you in class and in the attendance record.
• Login ID and PIN — used to authenticate you when you sign in. PINs are verified server-side and are never exposed to the browser.
• Attendance records — date, time, and status (present / absent / late) of each class session.
• Learning progress — quiz scores and completed episodes, stored locally in your browser (localStorage). This data stays on your device and is not sent to our servers.

We do not collect your email address, home address, phone number, or payment information through the app.

3. How We Use Your Information

• To let you log in and access your class materials.
• To record attendance for the teacher's reference.
• To personalize your in-class experience (e.g., displaying your name on the welcome screen).

We do not use your information for advertising, automated profiling, or any purpose beyond running the class.

4. How We Store Your Information

Student data (names, PINs, attendance) is stored in Supabase, a cloud database service with encryption at rest and in transit. Access is protected by Row-Level Security policies — anonymous visitors cannot read PINs or sensitive fields.

Learning progress data (quiz scores, completed episodes) is stored in your browser's localStorage and never leaves your device.

5. Third-Party Services

• Supabase (supabase.com) — database and authentication backend.
• Typecast (typecast.ai) — text-to-speech audio generation for lesson content.
• Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com) — fonts loaded on page render.
• GitHub Pages (github.com) — web hosting for hangeulquest.com.

These services have their own privacy policies. We do not control their data practices.

6. Children's Privacy

Hangeul Quest (ages 13 and up) is our publicly available program. Hangeul Quest Kids (ages 6–11) is offered separately, as a small private class for families we already know personally — it is not publicly advertised and is not open to public enrollment. Some of our Kids students are under 13, so we are committed to protecting children's privacy and collect only the minimum information necessary to run our classes.

• No public self-registration. Children cannot create their own accounts, and Hangeul Quest Kids cannot be joined through this website. Every student account is set up by the teacher directly, after enrollment has been arranged personally with a parent or guardian.
• No sensitive data collected. We do not collect a child's email address, phone number, home address, photo, or payment information through the app.
• No advertising or tracking. We do not show ads, run analytics that profile children, or share children's data with third parties for marketing purposes.
• No live capture. The app does not access a device's camera or microphone to record or store audio or video of students.
• Parental access and control. A parent or guardian may, at any time, ask us what information we hold about their child, request corrections, or request full deletion of their child's account and records. We will act on any such request within a reasonable time.

Illustrated characters that appear in lesson content are fictional and are not photographs of enrolled students. If you have any questions or concerns about your child's data, please contact us directly at hangeulquest@gmail.com — we respond personally to every message.

7. Your Rights

• Access — You may ask us what data we hold about you.
• Correction — You may ask us to correct your name or PIN.
• Deletion — You may ask us to delete your account and records at any time.

To exercise any of these rights, email us at hangeulquest@gmail.com. For students under 13, a parent or guardian may exercise these rights on the child's behalf.

8. Changes to This Policy

If we make significant changes to this policy, we will update the effective date above and notify enrolled students by email.
